Accountability with real support and next steps.

Impaired driving doesn’t happen in a vacuum. There are always stories, stressors, and patterns behind the incident. Our DUI-related program combines required assessment with meaningful guidance—so individuals can move forward with clarity and support, not just a completed form.

We work with individuals referred by:

  • Attorneys and legal teams

  • Schools, colleges, and athletics departments

  • Greek life organizations and campus life offices

  • Employers wanting to support an employee through a required process

Often, participants are:

  • Meeting a legal or institutional requirement

  • Worried about the consequences for school, work, or their record

  • Not yet sure whether they “have a problem”—but open (or required) to being evaluated

Who This Program Serves

What this Program Includes

Professional Assessment

  • Conducted by a NYS OASAS-approved certified substance use counselor for clinical screening, assessment, and treatment services for impaired driving offenders.

  • Comprehensive review of the incident, substance use history, risk factors, and protective factors

  • Standardized tools and clinical interview to form an accurate picture

Toxicology Screening

  • Coordination with a partner laboratory for toxicology testing

  • Results used to inform the overall assessment and recommendations

Clear Recommendations

Participants receive a formal recommendation, which may include:

  • Education-only requirements

  • Outpatient treatment or counseling

  • Further evaluation if needed

When appropriate, recommended services may feed directly into 1st Step Counseling, creating a seamless path from assessment to support.

Why This Matters

A checkbox program might satisfy a requirement, but it rarely changes behavior. This approach:

  • Gives attorneys, schools, and employers confidence that referrals receive a thorough, clinically sound assessment.

  • Helps participants move beyond shame or denial into clear next steps that match their actual level of risk.

  • Reduces the likelihood of repeat incidents by pairing accountability with real education, support, and connection to ongoing care when needed.

Ultimately, it respects both the safety of the community and the humanity of the person who made a harmful choice.
